The siunitx package --- A comprehensive (SI) units package
--------------------------------------------------------------
Typesetting values with units requires care to ensure that the
combined mathematical meaning of the value plus unit
combination is clear. In particular, the SI units system lays
down a consistent set of units with rules on how these are to
be used. However, different countries and publishers have
differing conventions on the exact appearance of numbers (and
units).

The siunitx provides a set of tools for authors to typeset
numbers and units in a consistent way. The package has an
extended set of configuration options which make it possible to
follow varying typographic conventions with the same input
syntax. The package includes automated processing of numbers
and units, and the ability to control tabular alignment of
numbers.

A number of LaTeX packages have been developed in the past for
formatting units: SIunits, sistyle, unitsdef, unitspkg,
fancyunits and fancynum. Support for users of all of these
packages is available as emulation modules in siunitx. In
addition, siunitx can carry out many of the functions of the
dcolumn, rccol and numprint packages.

Release Notes for Version 1.0
--------------------------------------------------------------
This is the first full release of siunitx, and is now
considered stable.

Users upgrading from the earlier test release v0.8d should note
the following changes, which may require alteration of their
source:
 - The option "tabalign" now covers all alignment in columns
provided by siunitx. The previous effect of "tabalign" is
now available as the "tabnumalign" option.
 - The column type "s" in version 0.8d has been renamed to "S"
(note change of case). This is to accommodate a column for
units alone, which now takes the letter "s".
There are also a number of new or improved features and bug
fixes compared to the last testing release.

TeX distribution maintainers are encouraged to add siunitx to
their bundles. The package is supplied with a TDS-ready
archive, containing the pre-built documentation, to make this
process easier.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Status of SIunits
--------------------------------------------------------------
With this release of siunitx, the existing SIunits package
moves to maintenance-only status. No further features will be
added to SIunits: only existing bugs will be fixed. Users of
SIunits are encouraged to move to siunitx, which includes all
of the abilities of the SIunits package.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Future plans
--------------------------------------------------------------
Requests for new features for the next release (v1.1) are very
welcome. Some ideas have already been supplied during the
final testing phase for this release.
