package.

Summary description:  Access metadata from the git distributed version control system

Announcement text:

 The package now detokenises those items of git metadata that can
 contain hostile characters such as @, $, or _.

 There should not be any unwanted side-effects, but I'd welcome
 feedback via email or GitHub.
