Changes from version 6.0

A: update of french.sty, taking in account that only german and
english can be combined with french.sty, using the mlp package, and no
other language. 

B: it was necessary to take in account the fact that eTeX defines
16-bits counters. 

C: In addition to that little updates the test files (torture) have
been adapted to the last developments of TeX and LaTeX.
