 * LaTeX 2021/06/01 or later is required.

 * vertical/horizontal environments now honor empty argument, which means natural width.

 * new LaTeX environment: verticaltypesetting

 * new plain TeX commands: \beginverticaltypesetting and \endverticaltypesetting
